Pszichoterápia 7 2 Gábor Szendi Abstract The phenomena of sudden cardiac death and the sensations and fears related to heart in anxiety disorders, especially panic disorder and cardiophobia, can be explained only in the mutual brain-heart interactions. The two hemispheres are specialised in both different emotions and methods of dealing with stress and have different roles in controlling the heart.
The main factor in the sudden cardiac death seems to be stress and the sudden rising sympathetic dominance of the left brain on heart. The right hemisphere's leading role in anxiety disorders can be understood because of being specialised in negative emotions, and furthermore its dominant position in perceiving and modulating of heart sheds new lights on the aetiology of symptoms and fears related to heart in panic disorder, agoraphobia and cardiophobia.
